ENERGY STAR? 2018 Emerging Technology Award1

ENERGY STAR? 2018 Emerging Technology Award

The ENERGY STAR? Emerging Technology Award is given to innovative technologies that meet rigorous performance criteria to reduce energy use and lower greenhouse gas emissions, without sacrificing features or functionality.
1. Inverter Technology is a key attribute of LG’s new room air conditioners. It is used in conjunction with a variable-speed compressor and adjusts the compressor motor speed to regulate temperature. This is more energy efficient than non-Inverter Technology room air conditioners, which turns the compressor either on or off to regulate temperature. In Department of Energy approved testing, LG’s Inverter room air conditioner model (LW1517IVSM) showed a 25% Combined Energy Efficiency Ratio (CEER) positive difference when compared with the ENERGY STAR? minimum CEER requirement.
2. The Energy Guide label estimates how much energy the appliance uses, compares energy use of similar products, and lists approximate annual operating costs.
3. The estimated annual energy cost is based on a national average electricity cost of 13 cents per kWh and seasonal use of 8 hours a day over a 3-month period. Your exact costs will depend on local utility rates and the type and source of your energy.

What people are saying

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Avoid the company at all costs! I purchased the unit last week online, and the fan is not powerful enough so I want to return the unit. I have called LG for 4 days now, each morning, to get a return authorization, and cannot get through. I have been transferred, hung-up on, and am horrified regarding their treatment of customers. Do not purchase. business model. I will not purchase this product again, and think about it yourself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great!!! Super quiet... We waited a long time before deciding to install an additional air conditioner to assist the central unit Because the upstairs is always warmer than the down . The LG 14000 did the trick... plus it's super quiet... I cam barely hear it run... perfect for the bed rooms...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inverter technology in a window unit? Amazing! I bought one of these almost a year ago, which was when I started seeing it available online. It cost much more than other traditional 14K BTU window units but I was intrigued by the dual inverter technology. Before our house got redone, we had window units. Now every room has a split AC unit. My aunt wanted an AC for her house (large living room) so I ordered one of these LGs. I took a gamble and hoped the price difference was worth it. Zero regrets, and no problems with it! It's SO quiet -- I'd say louder than a split AC but a good bit quieter than a traditional window unit. You can easily watch TV or have a conversation with this on. The 14K unit is HUGE. You'll want to think about installation before hand. It has a removable sleeve which gets installed first, then the insides slide into that. I had to put something outside to support the unit. The box is really big so that was a clue but definitely worth the effort. My aunt's house has high ceiling and it's hot and humid most days here so she runs it often. I added a supplemental 8K BTU unit for super hot days because this 14K unit is on the small side for the area; the larger dual inverter unit would've been perfect but we didn't want to install a 220V line. Otherwise, this 14K on its own easily takes the edge off of hot days and certainly gets rid of humidity which makes things much more comfortable even if it's not an igloo. Inverter units are much more efficient and that was also a selling point. I would certainly spend the extra $ and purchase one of these again in the future.

Is this unit meant to be left in the window year round, or should it be removed during the winter months?

Asked by: Asho42
Some people leave their A/Cs in all year long because their buildings are warm. If you plan to keep the LG 14,000 BTU DUAL Inverter Smart wi-fi Enabled Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW1517IVSM in place, wrap the inside of the unit with a padded cover to reduce draft and insulate the area around it. Another option: Cover the entire window in plastic sheeting. Depending on how well the unit is sealed and insulated, a window air conditioner can cause a draft. If your apartment gets drafty or your light is limited, you probably want the air-conditioner out. The recommendation is to remove any air conditioner from a window location. During the winter months, heat could escape through the accordion extension panels on the A/C and the chassis; cold air could also infiltrate your home the same way. If you decide to leave your air conditioner in the window, follow the instructions in the owner's manual for wintertime storage. Be sure not to trap any water in it--mold could grow inside it. To dry the interior, run the fan-only mode for several hours over the course of a few days when the weather is dry and mild. After the air conditioner is dry, you can prevent rainwater from entering it by protecting its exterior with a fitted cover or plastic sheeting...^IFV

Is this item really out of stock/ discontinued? Your site seems to mislead customers. I called the stores "where I can buy" this item and they said they don't even carry LG. I have been running around searching for this item and no luck.

Asked by: surfer girl
We regret to read that you feel that "Where to Buy" on our site is misleading with listings for where the LG 14,000 BTU DUAL Inverter Smart wi-fi Enabled Window Air Conditioner, Model # LW1517IVSM is sold. Retailers select which LG products they want to order from us and then they provide us with information for if they have the products in stock so we can update the "Where to Buy" page. Information on the availability of stock is proprietary information that only a retailer can provide you with which is why we provide a link to the retailer's website and their telephone number...^IFV

Is it possible to install this unit in a window with a width slightly less than the recommended 27”? I have a 26” wide window, and I’m hoping this would still work...

Asked by: SteveT_1
I'm wondering the exact same thing. Did you buy it and give it a shot? With a width of 23.62" I don't see why it would be an issue. Maybe just not enough room to open the side fins up much?

This unit is the best by far, the best of the wifi AC's that I have found.  I am replacing two in the wall 15 year old units and as long as this fits through the opening, there should be no issue making it a permanent location.  Am I correct?

Asked by: msg2020
This unit is designed for installation in standard double hung windows with actual opening widths from 27" to 39". The top and bottom window sashes must open sufficiently to allow a clear vertical opening of 16" from the bottom of the upper sash to the inside sill.
